FaceBook or FaceMash?

With growing social network and wonderful pics of us,  friends and family,  life is good.

Fair enough.  Facebook is here to stay and we can't deny its role in socializing, networking and connecting.  We can't escape it:  We find that we need an FB account to be able to connect to a growing number of websites.  So, Facebook is fast becoming an integral part of our web presence.

I believe Facebook should not become ingrained in our daily lives to the point of addiction.  We go to parties to socialize.  But if we party all the time, we might become more obnoxious than sociable.  We have become immersed in how we are perceived on it (how many likes) and how we perceive others (who do we like).

Surely,  having that perfect video,  that picture,  that photo album,  that witty status update or that cracker of a joke makes us look cool.  We all want our friends to like our doings on the Facebook and want to be in their good books.

There is more to the Facebook than that.  Facebook can also be a vehicle to serve great causes on a viral scale.  And to defeat evil by publicity.  We can certainly improve on our Facebook use by putting it to good use.  And in doing so we can work on what ultimately is going to save our faces and fill our books with deeds that we shall be proud of.

Don't we want our deeds to be liked by our Lord just as much as we want our pictures liked by our friends?  Have we ever stopped to think about what our faces and books might look like on the Day of Judgment?

Allah SWT Says in Quran:

Some faces that Day will be beaming,
Laughing, rejoicing.
And other faces that Day will be dust-stained,
Blackness will cover them
(80:38 - 41)

And the Book (of Deeds) will be placed (before you);
and you will see the sinful in great terror
because of what is (recorded) therein;

they will say, "Ah! woe to us! what a Book is this!
It leaves out nothing small or great, but takes account thereof!"
They will find all that they did,
placed before them: And not one will your Lord treat with injustice.
(18:49)
